More Bad News in Carolina, Williams Done for the Year

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Poor performances and injuries have been all too plentiful this season in Carolina and the hits just keep on coming as the news has come down that DeAngelo Williams has been placed on Injured Reserve, effectively ending his 2010 season.

Both Williams and teammate Jonathan Stewart have been disappointing this season. The pair has combined for less than 600 yards and only 2 touchdowns. That's well off the pace they set last year when they combined for 2250 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Stewart has seen his share of setbacks this year as well, most recently suffering a concussion and missing some time.

Fantasy Outlook:
Stewart should return to the lineup soon and he has had success in the past with Williams out due to past injuries. However, he's only scored more than 4 points twice this season, so he's no lock to be successful. Particularly as long as the Panthers passing game continues to struggle and restricts the rest of the offense as a result.

At the moment, the bright spot in fantasy looks to be Mike Goodson who just recorded his first 100 yard game against Tampa last week, but we'll need to see more from him before we really know what he's capable of.

Regardless it's hard to recommend starting either back in the near future, except as a flex option. Over the next two weeks they will face a couple tough run defenses in Baltimore (7th) and Cleveland (6th).
