The first pick of the 2011 NFL Draft has been made and Carolina is walking away with another QB. The Panthers wasted little time pulling the trigger on Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton.

While we think Cam has a high ceiling and a lot of upside, we have our reservations with this pick. The Panthers' offense was pathetic last season and their defense wasn't much better. There are a lot of holes this team needs to fill. Jimmy Clausen didn't exactly light up the world in 2010 and Matt Moore was marginally better. QB is one of those needs, but it is also one of the hardest positions to fill with a rookie.

Granted, Sam Bradford made a good run as a rookie, narrowly missing the playoffs, but he also came with a lot fewer question marks than Newton. We're not exactly sure how much of an impact he'll have in Carolina or how soon, but we are positive that he is going to be an exciting case to follow.
