Pryor's prospects remain cloudy. For NFL teams to look at him, they can't just look at the football. They have to look closely at the person and decide if he has the character to be successful in the NFL. Pryor earned this extra scrutiny thanks to a scandalous past at Ohio State. The QB has been attached to numerous violations of NCAA rules for trading autographed merchandise for tattoos, improper procurement of cars, and more. I'm not defending any of his actions, but it may be possible to explain his choices by viewing them as part of the culture and dynamics that exist in college sports. The point is that when teams are scouting him they need to discern if he simply gave into temptations and made bad decisions or if he has underlying character issues that predispose him to making poor decisions again and again. His draft chances hinge on these assessments. Stepping back to the football, the picture is a lot clearer. Pryor is a terrific athlete and has potential to be an explosive player. He's drawn comparisons to Vince Young for his ability use the open field (600+ rushing yards each of three seasons). He also made strides in his accuracy jumping from 57% as a sophomore to 65% as a Junior. The problem is he doesn't look NFL ready. He needs to continue to work on his technique and foregoing his senior year at Ohio State will cost him some experience. At this point, he looks to be a two year project. Going back to his speed, there is also a chance that a team could attempt to convert him to a Wide Receiver. In the end, he will find a home at the supplemental draft. The big questions are: What round will he go in? Who is going to take a chance on him? What are they going to do with him? Fantasy Outlook: We'll revisit this as those questions are answered, but at this point, there aren't any real fantasy implications. Knowing that he is a project player, we don't expect to see him on the field anytime soon. He is talented and should be kept on your radar. |
