Tennessee Tossup

With some offenses, you have a pretty good idea of what you're going to get heading into the new season. For example, you know what you have in the Eagles with Michael Vick, LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson, and Jeremy Maclin. The same goes for teams like the Falcons and even a team like the Texans.

One team you definitely can't say that about is the Tennessee Titans. For this team, the questions start right at the top with new head coach Mike Munchak who hasn't even had a chance to work with his team yet - courtesy of the lockout. What affect will Munchak have on this team? The uncertainty only grows from there.

Jake Locker
He's a rookie quarterback and likely to be the opening day starter. What could possibly raise more questions about an offense's potential than a rookie QB? Locker's draft stock was an up and down roller coaster. At one time he was projected #1, but come draft day, it was felt he went higher than expected at #10. That fluctuation reflects the questions everyone has about his ability. Is he a #1 talent or not? We're all anxious to see what he can do on a pro field, but his learning curve will affect every other player on this offense.

Kerry Collins
At this point, the big question is: Will Collins even be on the team in 2011? If you look back at the news over the beginning of this year. It has been reported that he was considering retirement then not considering retirement. Then he said he'd like to stay with the Titans and considered mentoring Locker. Now he clearly states he wants to be the starter and not a backup. The potential QB controversy does little to help us properly assess the rest of the offense.

Chris Johnson
Wait, you got this one right? There's no doubt that he's an easy top 5 draft pick, but do we really know what we have with him this season? Kind of. Two years ago, CJ was dominant going for over 2500 total yards and ranking first amongst all RB with 335 fantasy points. Last year saw him slide off of that high, dropping around 900 yards off his total and finishing with 222 fantasy points, a 34% drop in production and only good enough for 5th amongst RB. Those are still solid numbers, but which guy are you going to get this year? Assume Locker is the starting QB - that should help CJ keep the carries up, but can Locker keep the team on the field? Johnson's a stud, so a repeat of his 2010 numbers make sense, but our confidence isn't quite as high with the QB situation.

Kenny Britt
We still don't know exactly what we have in Britt. Remember 225 yards and 3 TD's for 41 fantasy points against the Eagles last year? Loved it. Remember the 6 games that followed hampered by or lost to injury? Hated it. Remember all of his traffic violations and problems with the law? Are you kidding me?

We were already wondering what Britt's true potential was and how consistent he could be. He's shown a lot of upside, but he hasn't shown us enough to remove many of our doubts. Now he's got legal trouble and we have to wait and see if he'll be subjected to any suspension. These sort of problems also raise character and dedication concerns. Will he be ready and able to play week 1 and perform like a star or will he be the kind of player that makes you feel like you are rolling the dice week in and week out?

Jared Cook
The TE makes this list because his stock is on the rise. Cook may have only started 1 game last year while Bo Scaife started 12, but it was clear by the end of the season that the torch had been passed. In the final 3 weeks of the season Scaife had 1 reception to Cook's 25. He saw 9 looks in each of the last 2 weeks and notched his first TD against Kansas City. He's no star TE yet, but we've been watching to see what he'll do in the new season. Let's just hope the QB situation doesn't get in the way of his development.
