Bump Up These Teams On Your Draft Rankings

Friday, July 22, 2011

The lockout has taken its toll on the NFL offseason and has prevented all 32 teams from getting in important team workouts and player/coach meetings. However, not all teams are going to be affected equally.

Teams like the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers have a little less to worry about. When the season finally resumes, their roster and coaching staff will not to be terribly different, particularly at key positions. The Pack should be able to step right back into familiar roles and dynamics and begin the season strong.

In stark contrast, you have the Carolina Panthers. They spent 2010 reeling into oblivion and have a huge hole to dig out of this season. As if they weren't bad enough last year, they have to adjust to a brand new head coach who has not even been allowed to talk to his team yet, a rookie QB in Cam Newton, and the possibility of losing offensive figureheads DeAngelo Williams and Steve Smith.

While there are a lot of other factors that go into ranking players for a fantasy football draft, this year has some unique considerations. Due to the turmoil caused by the lockout, you will want to give an edge to players that are on the rosters of stable teams. Today we are defining that as teams that will begin 2011 with the same head coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator as they had in 2010. Those 13 teams are:

Atlanta Falcons
Buffalo Bills
Chicago Bears
Detroit Lions
Green Bay Packers
Indianapolis Colts
Jacksonville Jaguars
New Orleans Saints
New York Giants
New York Jets
Pittsburgh Steelers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Washington Redskins
