Sidney Rice is Seattle Bound. Good for your roster?

Sidney Rice has been a player worth following over the last few years. Not too long ago he emerged out of the mire that was the Vikings receiving corps when Brett Favre came to town and catapulted himself into the fantasy elite with amazing hands and a new-found big play ability.

Then came an unexpected hip injury to ruin his 2010 season, leaving fantasy footballers to wonder when he would be back to full strength. His health status looks good going into the new year, but Rice had us all wondering where he would sign. Would he end up someplace beneficial to our fantasy rosters?

Well, the answer is in and Rice followed the money to the pacific northwest. ESPN is reporting the deal is for 5 years and $41 million dollars. The move is obviously good for him from a financial perspective. I think it holds less value from a fantasy perspective, particularly in the short term.

Fantasy Outlook:
The biggest problem in Seattle is that they don't have a Quarterback. Their current depth chart features a trio of projects in Charlie Whitehurst, Matt Leinart, and fellow Ex-Viking Tarvaris Jackson. The job is wide open, but none of those candidates have shown the ability to successfully run an offense.

Don't get me wrong, I think Rice has big value with just about anybody throwing him the ball. If you put it up there, he can haul it in. The location is simply less than ideal. It's easier to imagine him having more success with someone like Donovan McNabb, had he decided to stay in Minnesota.

For now, his value will take a hit, but I'm hopeful that the Seahawks post-Hasselbeck offense will shake itself out and that Rice and his owners will both benefit.
