Ronnie Brown to Philly. Will it Cost Lesean McCoy?

It was only a few shorts years ago that Ronnie Brown was a viable fantasy running back. In 2008 he put up just over 900 yards and scored 10 TDs. His value was on the rise going into 2009 and he started the year strong. Through 9 games he notched 648 yards and 8 TDs. His hot streak ended in Week 10 - he didn't play another game that season.

2010 ended up being a down year for the Dolphins RB. He played a full 16 games, but he saw his per carry average drop to 3.7 yards, the lowest of his NFL career and he only scored 5 TDs. In the offseason Brown and Miami parted ways.

On Tuesday, the Eagles, who have been busy, snapped him up. Even though he has been trending downwards, Brown is a solid boost to their backfield and should provide a nice complement to LeSean McCoy. Any chance he could be more than that?

Fantasy Outlook:
Like most preseason moves, we have to let these things shake out a bit, but at this moment, there's no need for current McCoy owners to worry.

LeSean was a beast in 2010. He quietly put up 1600 total yards and 9 TDs in 15 games and talk about consistency. Outside of week 3, his lowest combined yardage output of the season was 73 yards. Do the math and he was always good for a minimum of 7 points every single week in standard yardage leagues. Better yet, he averaged nearly double that per game (13.93).

He is just as good for the real Eagles offense as he is for your fantasy team. He offers a double threat as a pass catcher (78 in 2010) and truly complements Michael Vick's style of play.

The real question is how the Eagles will use Ronnie Brown? We can look at Jerome Harrison for some clues. Take out week 17 last year, when Harrison carried the load so McCoy could rest, and he tallied 19 total carries from weeks 6-16.

While I don't believe that Brown will notch fewer than 20 carries, at this stage there's no reason to believe he'll be splitting time either. The distribution will be somewhere in the middle. Either way, it won't be enough to downgrade McCoy's status. He is the feature back in Philly and should be the same on your fantasy roster.
