I Hope You Didn't Draft David Garrard

ESPN has reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars plan to release quarterback David Garrard. The move doesn't come as a total shock, but it will cause a lot of ripples for any Jaguars that you're holding on your team.

The Jags are turning to veteran backup Luke McCown instead of first round draft pick Blaine Gabbert to open the season. There's a reason that McCown isn't a regular starter, but he'll have to be good enough just to keep this team afloat. He saw a lot of snaps in the preseason and notched a pair of TDs, but wasn't facing first team defenses.

Garrard may not have been a terrific quarterback, but he always managed to put up fantasy numbers. He was also good enough to keep his receivers relevant and to keep defenses honest. The dynamic is about to change.

With McCown and Gabbert calling signals the rest of the way, you have to downgrade Mike Thomas, Jason Hill, and TE Marcedes Lewis until this team proves they can move the chains through the air. Even Maurice Jones-Drew will suffer if defenses don't have to respect the passing game. If the Jags can't get that working soon, then MJD should get ready for extra bodies up front.

Fantasy Outlook:
To be fair, we'll give them a chance to see how they perform against the Titans, but I would be extra careful with the receivers. Marcedes Lewis should take less of a hit and I would recommend using MJD just like you planned before this news came out.

I got Lewis in one league and thought about starting him but now I am rethinking that.

If you drafted Garrard just pick up McCown, your team isn't going to suck any less lol.
