Torain Takes Over With Portis Out 4-6

Redskins RB Clinton Portis left the Eagles game last weekend with a groin injury. It is now apparent just how serious that injury was. According to the Washington Post, Portis' injury is a third degree separation of the groin muscle which means the "separation is off the bone."

As a result, Portis will miss at least 4-6 weeks. In his absence, backup Ryan Torain will take over and be the starting RB. He filled in for Portis against Philly, recording 18 carries for 70 yards and a TD.

Torain also has a history of being injury prone, so expect the Redskins to make some kind of move to get some extra security at the position.

Fantasy Outlook:
Portis has been on a downward trend for some time now. He's averaging 4 yards a carry this year, which is the same as his average from '09. Torain is doing a little better at 4.6. If you need the roster room for Torain or another fill in, feel free to drop Portis.

Torain starts his tenure at feature back with a tough week 5 matchup against Green Bay and another tough one against Chicago week 7. Sandwiched in between is a favorable matchup against Indy. Right now the backfield is all his, so lock him up if he is still available in your league.
