Bad Break for Romo, Literally

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

The news out of Dallas isn't terrific following the Giants loss and not just because the Cowboys fell to 1-5 on the year. The team now knows they will likely be without QB Tony Romo for at least 6-8 weeks with a broken clavicle.

The news is a bit surprising since Romo clearly tried to return to the game and the trainers had to pull him back. At that time, it didn't look to viewers like the injury was that serious.

Veteran backup Jon Kitna took over and completed 16 passes for 187 yards and a couple of TD's to Dez Bryant. We've seen Kitna plenty in the past and know he is a capable backup. According to a Dallas Morning News interview, Roy Williams had this to say: "Tony is our starter, but Jon is just as good. We are going to work this week in practice so we can get the timing down with the receivers. But I have complete faith in him. I have played with him for three years and I know how good he is."

By our count, Romo is the fifth QB the Giants have knocked out of a game this season. Hopefully, you don't see them on your fantasy schedule anytime soon.

Fantasy Outlook:
I could see holding on to Romo for a couple more days to see if anything changes on the injury front. If not, you may want to part ways with him this year. The best case scenario would bring him back just in time for the fantasy playoffs with no guarantee that he'll be able to step right back into the lineup.

Meanwhile, Kitna is worth a pickup at QB. The schedule has some favorable matchups the rest of the way, including next week's matchup against Jacksonville (31st against QBs).
