KFFLJanuary 14, 2013
Packers | A.J. Hawk could be release candidate: The Green Bay Packers could consider releasing LB A.J. Hawk this offseason because he is scheduled to make $5.45 million next season and has not been involved in a play that has produced a turnover in the last two seasons.

Packers | A.J. Hawk not expected to lose time to D.J. Smith: Green Bay Packers LB D.J. Smith is not expected to take away any playing time from LB A.J. Hawk because he is not Hawks backup in the 3-4 defense. Defensive coordinator Dom Capers said he believes Smith can play the position even though he currently is the backup to LB Desmond Bishop.

Packers | D.J. Smith won't compete with A.J. Hawk: Green Bay Packers LB D.J. Smith will not compete with LB A.J. Hawk because Smith doesn't play the same position as Hawk on defense. Smith serves as the backup to Hawk in the team's 3-4 defense. 'You can say it's kind of minor, but it's kind of a big difference,' Smith said. 'It's still a middle linebacker, but one position (Hawk's) has more responsibility than the other. When it comes to A.J.'s spot, he's the signal caller. He's the guy that runs the show. He's the quarterback of the whole thing. He gets guys lined up, ready to go and makes all the checks when things switch around.' LB Desmond Bishop is the 'mack' linebacker while Hawk is the 'buck' linebacker in this system. LB Robert Francois is likely Hawk's backup in case of injury.
KFFLJune 22, 2012
Packers | LB coach confident in A.J. Hawk: Green Bay Packers inside linebackers coach Winston Moss said he is confident LB A.J. Hawk will play well this season and make more plays than he did in 2011. 'I'm fine with what A.J. is doing. But on the flipside of that, you want your guys being impactful and making plays. He didn't do it last year and I'm sure he's not satisfied. He's going to respond accordingly,' Moss said. Moss said Hawk did not have a down year last season but did not make as many impact plays as the team would have liked.
