KFFLMarch 19, 2013
: Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said he never considered pursuing Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles for the team's starting quarterback job. He had his eyes on QB Alex Smith only.

: Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said he will evaluate eight to 10 players for the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, including West Virginia QB Geno Smith, despite the recent acquisition of QB Alex Smith.
KFFLMarch 12, 2013
: The San Francisco 49ers have officially traded QB Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs for an undisclosed 2013 draft choice and a conditional 2014 draft choice. The 2013 pick is believed to be a second-round draft choice.

: San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith, who will be traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, should benefit in head coach Andy Reid's offense, particularly in the passing game, according to analyst Trent Dilfer. Reid will provide an enhanced passing game thats heavy on short and intermediate routes, which will suit Smith's strengths. 'Now hes going to the same structure and a superior passing system,' Dilfer said. 'Not a superior system - Im not taking a shot at the Niners at all. I love what the Niners do. But just from a passing standpoint. A passing-tree standpoint. Multiplicity in the dropback, and playaction and movement game. The screen game. Trick plays. You name it. This is one of the better passing systems in the league.'
KFFLFebruary 28, 2013
: San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick said he believes QB Alex Smith will be successful next season no matter where he plays. 'Of course, nothing can be finalized yet. Whether Alex is with us or he's somewhere else next season, he's been a great teammate to me,' Kaepernick said. '(He's) been a great friend, a great mentor. So anywhere he goes, or if he's still with us, he's gonna be successful.'
KFFLFebruary 28, 2013
: San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis said it will be difficult seeing QB Alex Smith play for another team in 2013 after being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. 'It was tough for me because I really care about Alex,' Davis said. 'I love the guy. It's hard to see him leave, but I know the business. I understand it. It's the nature of the business.' Davis added Smith handled his role well after he was relegated to backup status following the emergence of QB Colin Kaepernick. 'He's a classy guy. You saw what happened to him this year. He remained a 49er and he didn't complain. He didn't go to coach saying, 'Coach I should be the starter. I had a concussion and you took me out.' He didn't do none of those things.'
