Freaks of the Week: 2011 Week 9
![]() | WR | Vincent Jackson
| Vincent Jackson was able to get behind the Packers corners all day long and torch them for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns. It was his best game of the year surpassing his week 2 performance of 29 fantasy points against New England. Unfortunately, outside of three games this year VJ has struggled being limited due to a hamstring injury. He sure looked 100% today but did play a very weak Packers secondary. We'll have to see if VJ and the Chargers offense can keep things rolling against Oakland in week 10. The Raiders secondary is ranked 21st against wideouts giving up 22+ fantasy points per game. | |||
![]() | WR | Julio Jones | |
| Julio Jones returned to action after taking two weeks off with a hamstring injury and took advantage of the Colts weak secondary. The rookie had his best game of the year by far with 131 yards receiving, 2 receiving touchdowns and 33 yards rushing on the day. His big game helped Atlanta push their record to 5-3 on the year and 2nd place in the NFC South. In week 9, he'll face an average New Orleans defense that's giving up 160 yards and a score to wideouts per game. | |||
![]() | QB | Aaron Rodgers | |
| Aaron Rodgers was nearly flawless in their win Sunday afternoon against the San Diego Chargers. He completed 21 of 26 passes for 247 yards, 4 touchdowns and had a quarterback rating of 145.8. The four TD passes ran his NFL-leading total to 24 TD throws on the year. The Packers are sure lucky their offense can put up the points between Rodgers' accuracy and his receivers' good hands. Their secondary has done well at getting interceptions but are giving up alot of yardage and scores. Rodgers will face a Minnesota defense he is quite familar with having played them just a few weeks ago and throw for 335 yards and 3 touchdowns. | |||
![]() | QB | Philip Rivers | |
| Phillip Rivers and the Charger's offense final found their mojo in week 9 but unfortunately they played a team with more offensive mojo in the Green Bay Packers. Rivers at times still made errant throws but did complete 26 of 46 passes for a season-high 385 yards and 4 touchdowns. We saw glimpses of how Rivers' and their offense can play but the problem is a game is a full 4 quarters long. One lucky thing for Rivers is his strength of schedule the next 3 games are favorable starting with Oakland. The Raiders are ranked 28th at stopping opposing QBs and allowing 260 yards and 1.75 scores per game. | |||
![]() | RB | Willis McGahee
| Willis McGahee returned to the starting lineup in week 9 after sitting out a week due to a hand injury. He carried the ball 20 times for 163 yards and 2 touchdowns in Denver's win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. McGahee is by far Denver's leading rusher this year with 623 yards and 3 touchdowns. It was also his fourth 100-yard game in his past six starts. He gets a nice matchup in week 10 against KC who is allowing 100+ yards and a score per game to running backs. | |||
