Fantasy Football Projections and Ratings: 2011 Week 9
| Sure Fire Freak | |||||||
| Rank | Player / Projection | Points | Matchup | Comment | |||
| 1 | Michael Vick 258 yds 1.8 TDs | 24.8 | vs | Vick smoked the Cowboys and looks like he's getting into a groove. Should keep rolling at home against Chicago. Last season he beat them up for 333 passing yards, a pair of TD throws, and chipped in 44 rushing yards. | |||
| 2 | Aaron Rodgers 283 yds 2.8 TDs | 24.4 | @ | Coming off a bye week he'll face the San Diego Chargers who are solid against opposing QBs. They're only allowing an average of 159 yards passing to QBs but 1.67 TDs per game. | |||
| 3 | Drew Brees 335 yds 2.6 TDs | 24.1 | vs | Had his worst game of the year with 1 TD and 2 INTs against the lowly Rams. He'll rebound this week against Tampa Bay who he scored 21 fantasy points on back in week 6. | |||
| 4 | Tom Brady 299 yds 2.4 TDs | 21.9 | vs | Even on his off days he puts up respectable numbers. He's starting a two week run against New York state starting with the Giants. They're both top 10 QB defenses, but so was Pittsburgh and Brady scored on them twice. | |||
| 5 | Eli Manning 315 yds 2.0 TDs | 20.6 | @ | Favorable matchup with New England giving up 330+ passing yards and 1.7 TDs per game to quarterbacks. Big Ben just put up 22 on them last week. | |||
| Solid Freakin Start | |||||||
| Rank | Player / Projection | Points | Matchup | Comment | |||
| 6 | Tony Romo 273 yds 2.1 TDs | 19.9 | vs | Romo has been struggling and his scores have dropped over the last 3 weeks. He'll have to get right against Seattle, but they won't make it easy. They're last two opponents averaged 12 points. | |||
| 7 | Philip Rivers 310 yds 1.7 TDs | 19.7 | vs | Surprisingly, he leads the league in interceptions after throwing 2 against KC. Gets a good matchup against the Packers 30th ranked pass defense, but they could pose a challenge with his subpar play and penchant for giving the ball away this season. | |||
| Freaky Potential | |||||||
| Rank | Player / Projection | Points | Matchup | Comment | |||
| 8 | Ben Roethlisberger 246 yds 1.3 TDs | 16.9 | vs | Big Ben has the Steelers rolling with 4 straight victories and a record of 6-2 on the year. He'll need all his mojo for his remaining games with 5 opponents ranked in the top 10 passing defenses. Baltimore is only giving up a very low 10.9 fantasy points to QBs. | |||
| 9 | Matt Ryan 232 yds 1.6 TDs | 16.5 | @ | Indy has been bad against the run and the pass this season. I expect Atlanta to keep it on the ground plenty, but Ryan has still managed to have success in games where Turner has gone off. | |||
| 10 | Josh Freeman 244 yds 1.0 TDs | 16.4 | @ | Freeman was solid against the Saints a couple weeks ago going over 300 yards and putting two in the end zone. | |||
| 11 | Matt Schaub 222 yds 1.8 TDs | 16.2 | vs | Schaub hasn't been flashy, but he has at least 1 passing TD every week this season and 0 interceptions over the last 3 games. Cleveland has a top 3 ranking against QBs, but they haven't faced the greatest QBs so far. | |||
| 12 | Mark Sanchez 210 yds 1.6 TDs | 15.8 | @ | Sanchez has actually looked good this year and the schedule works in his favor starting with the Bills. They allow around 275 yards and 1.4 TDs per week. | |||
| 13 | Matt Cassel 212 yds 1.6 TDs | 15.7 | vs | Now that the Chargers secondary is in the rear view mirror, the schedule starts to open up. The Dolphins are next ranking 29th against QBs and Cassel has rookie Jonathan Baldwin looking like a nice new weapon. | |||
| 14 | Tim Tebow 148 yds 0.8 TDs | 15.4 | @ | The football performance was ugly, but once again he has the right blend of passing and running to put up serviceable fantasy numbers. The football does matter though, so how long is his leash? | |||
| 15 | Tarvaris Jackson 245 yds 1.1 TDs | 15.3 | @ | He couldn't get a ball in the end zone, but put up a respectable 323 yards against a top 3 passing defense. That's a positive sign as the schedule starts to soften. | |||
| 16 | Jay Cutler 219 yds 1.5 TDs | 15.3 | @ | Has at least 1 passing TD every week but one. This week he gets the Eagles on the road. He threw 4 TD passes against them last season. They'll make it tougher this time around with an improved secondary. | |||
| 17 | Colt McCoy 214 yds 1.1 TDs | 14.6 | @ | Brutal schedule for the rest of the year facing many top 10 pass defenses starting with Houston this week. The Texans are only allowing 13.3 fantasy points per game to opposing QBs. | |||
| 18 | Andy Dalton 218 yds 1.4 TDs | 14.6 | @ | He's not playing great but getting the job done with a 5-2 record so far this year. Tough remaining schedule though facing 6 top 10 pass defenses yet this year. The Titans rank 15th in stopping QBs giving up 16.7 fantasy points. | |||
| 19 | Curtis Painter 237 yds 0.9 TDs | 14.3 | vs | His last 2 games have been horrible with a QB rating of 38.1 and 50.6. Gets an easier game this week with the Falcons allowing 275+ passing yards and 1.43 TDs to QBs. | |||
| 20 | Ryan Fitzpatrick 208 yds 1.2 TDs | 14.2 | vs | Outside of week 1 when Tony Romo scored 22 points, only Tom Brady has scored more than 10 points against the Jets (16). Rivers and Flacco combined for 15 total. | |||
| 21 | Carson Palmer 208 yds 1.4 TDs | 14.2 | vs | Great matchup against the bottom of the barrel in stopping QBs this year, but I'm not expecting too much from Palmer. Looked horrible last week. | |||
| Freakin Longshot | |||||||
| Rank | Player / Projection | Points | Matchup | Comment | |||
| 22 | Matt Moore 206 yds 0.8 TDs | 13.8 | @ | Aside from a lone rushing TD, the Giants shut him down. Unless your league is incredibly deep, he should remain on the waiver wire. | |||
| 23 | John Beck 214 yds 0.8 TDs | 13.4 | vs | QBs have had mixed results against the 49ers. The upside is that they are so good against the run that teams have to focus on the pass. | |||
| 24 | Matt Hasselbeck 212 yds 1.1 TDs | 13.2 | vs | His numbers have been down the last 3 weeks and he has one more tough opponent to get through. The Bengals rank 4th against QBs. | |||
| 25 | Alex Smith 184 yds 1.1 TDs | 12.7 | @ | San Fran has quietly crept to 6-1 on the year even with Smith putting up some pretty subpar fantasy numbers. Washington is giving up 242 pass yards and a score to opposing QBs. | |||
| 26 | Joe Flacco 205 yds 1.0 TDs | 12.6 | @ | Flacco only has 1 passing TD over the last 4 weeks, but 4 interceptions. He threw for three TDs against the Steelers in week 1. Looks unlikely that he'll be able to do it again. | |||
| 27 | Sam Bradford 216 yds 0.8 TDs | 12.2 | @ | The walking boot is off, but his status is still up in the air. | |||
| 28 | John Skelton 188 yds 0.9 TDs | 12.1 | vs | ||||

| 29 | A.J. Feeley 50 yds 0.2 TDs | 2.8 | @ | Didn't play well last week but got the victory over New Orleans. Not sure if he'll be starting, so check back later in the week once Bradford's status is known. Nice matchup. | |||
